THE DAVID GILMOUR #0001 Tribute Stratocaster

History

The voice of Pink Floyd, David Gilmour is recognised as one of the premier musicians of his generation, though, throughout his impressive career, Gilmour has also accumulated a stunning collection of unique and desirable instruments - none is more sought after and admired than the fabled #0001 Fender Stratocaster.
It is commonly known that this guitar is not the very first Fender Stratocaster ever made but sources believe it may be the first ever given a genuine serial number or, possibly a one-off custom job from the factory that was given this unique serial number.Regardless of its origins, it was during the summer of 1976 that Gilmour's good friend Phil Taylor needed to borrow some money in order to buy himself a house and, in a cunning move, Gilmour ‘blackmailed’ Taylor into giving him his White Fender Stratocaster as part of the deal!!!
The move paid off, #0001 is stunning a guitar that features custom gold equipment and a gold adonised scratchplate and is blessed with its original 1954 factory pickups and 3-way pickup selector switch (the 5-way switch not appearing until the late 60's / early 70's). Unlike many collector's items, #0001 has not been stored in a glass cabinet and hidden away, she’s seen plenty of action since coming into Gilmour’s possession - featuring on Gilmour's first solo album, on Another Brick in the Wall and during the 2004 concerts, celebrating 50 years of the Fender Stratocaster.
