Slowhand’s weapon of choice throughout the 70’s and early 80’s (from which his subsequent Fender Signature Model evolved) has become almost as famous as its owner.
In 1970, Clapton purchased six vintage Fender Stratocasters from the Sho-Bud guitar store in Nashville, Tennessee - giving three to close friends (George Harrison, Steve Winwood and Pete Townshend), the remaining three were stripped down to their component parts and the best pieces used to assemble the guitar we now know as "Blackie". The original ‘parts-caster’ that has remained an icon, a legendary instrument - the classic Clapton guitar.
